I would say that the field of LLM and ML (machine learning) fall under the computer science umbrella of AI, but that generative systems, while using deep learning and perhaps even neural networks, do not, in themselves, meet the semantic definition of AI as it is understood by people outside of the industry. The same currently could be said of discriminative AI, although I think that path is more promising for creating a system capable of mimicking human intelligence.
I might even argue that "AI" as a term no longer has meaning, really, outside of the few researchers not tied to a stock option. It's a marketing buzzword that has about as much semantic value as "new coke". ;)
