The Master replied, “The elders grew up in a time where they reaped a harvest planted by junzi (君子) of the past. Their women were virtuous, the work was easy, the silver poured forth from the mines, and their hands and minds grew soft. Those who live today must learn old values but devise new stratagems for living. We must listen to our long dead elders, and not our living ones, and make their words fit ou current world with Wisdom (智) if we are to live without losing all hope.”
