Found online in a usenet archive and obviously quite old. Back in 1985 we only class-full Sun code!
Why was it needed? Because Bellcore's 9.6Kb link using a BBN IMP had run out of route slots and we needed to move from N by Class-C's into one Class-B.
It turned out that the VAX BSD 4.2 code compiled with zero edits; hence we had source code to add subnetting to the Sun's. Ah, those were the days!
Phil Karn should recall this issue and the renumbering it caused! 🙂
