gentoo is more like a compile-first, you have access to first class binaries for most heavy packages (kernel - compilers - browsers) and a system of binaries-repos for most of the packages, not all but mostlu. So its pretty flexible (but if you dont want to compile ANY packages then is not the distro for you).
