Naturally, the "end" will not be the "end of the world" as such, as some would like to imagine, but at least the "end" of one of the worlds. And since it is Western civilization that is to suffer the end, those who are accustomed to think of it as "Civilization" par excellence, and who see nothing beyond it at all, are naturally inclined to think that everything else will perish with it. The end of this civilization will therefore be for them the "end of the world" in the broadest sense of the word.
