Your story created the impression that you invalidated his wishes, to follow celebrities. The Fediverse is about much more than that, sure, but he should be able to find "celebrities" (whatever that means to him) to follow if he wants to.
One of the reasons that most "celebrities" aren't on the Fediverse is that it's impossible for them to track reach and engagement here. Which is, of course, by design, but there's still nothing stopping them from creating a presence here if they would just shift their paradigm. And there's nothing wrong with joining a social network because you want to follow them.
It's just a bit of a sensitive topic for me. I'd like to see the Fediverse grow, but it seems that often, we turn people away by trying to tell them that want they want isn't valid. Know what I mean?
