In case this is useful for anyone, this is about how I've taken to explaining menstruation to my children.
They've been asking me in a pretty organic manner - they occasionally see me exchange a [insert preferred feminine hygiene method here], and have asked me what the brown/red stuff was. I don't purposely sit them down to explain.
I tell them that every month, my body prepares a cosy baby blanket inside my belly, in case a baby is going to start growing there.
