Proton Mail, or GOD-MOTHERFUCKING-DAMN IT..!
I have been using Proton's email service for going on a few years. I have a pro account I shell out for every month. I promoted their services when and where I could. I had pretty much settled in with them for the long haul.
Shocking bit of reality for us: There is no such thing as the long haul. Not in tech, anyway.
Proton CEO Andy Yen gets on social Media and touts Trump's pick of Gail Slater to lead the DOJ's anti-trust division. Claims the GOP will be "looking out for the little guy".
Andy? Have you been even paying attention?!
I can almost see one of the Proton staff busting into his office, and channeling their best Chris Farley (RIP), say something like "ANDY! SOME DAYS I WISH YOU'D SHUT YER BIG YAPPER!"
This is a very sensitive political moment we're living in. If you are a service provider, directing any kudos towards a Trump pick is going to see your memberships drop. People will jump off the fucking boat. Number go down, Andy, number go down. Talk about not reading the room.
Welp. I've been following the #Proton hashtag, and the popular stance is it's time to go. Vote with your dollars/feet. Turn on the lights, the party is over. Believe me, I'd rather not move services again. I don't want to go change the email addies on the shitload of accounts I have, but there it is.
It's not easy being a person with principles. For the longest time I made compromises and just went along. I can't do that any more. I'm done giving ground. As soon as I'm financially able, I'll be signing up with one of the other European-based alternatives out there. And if it goes to shit, I'll move again. To the providers out there, you have zero room on this one. This is the age of FAFO, and one ill-considered tweet/post could see your line go down.
