A little insider story: we still have a "coffee tan" background to some elements on CoffeeGeek.com. Been phasing it out - reluctantly - in various design tweaks last 3yrs.
But it's there because my previous tech developer LOVED that our website was one of the few he visited without either a) a white, or b) black / dark background. He said it really made us stand out. ;)
(sidenote: designing graphics to work/look good on tan backgrounds is its own challenge).
