Someone has made a thing called QuackOSM which converts OSM PBFs into GeoParquet files that you can query in DuckDB.

This means finding the closest local boozers in #OpenStreetMap data is pretty simple. Non-booze-based use cases are available.

(I tried to use the entire Great Britain extract and I got bored after waiting over an hour for it to do the thing.)
