I wrote about this a while ago expressing the concern. The problem so far is 2-fold: there are not enough people here to properly test this. BUT, even if we did have enough people, I suspect it would not work well because people generally don't click to pay someone if the content is ALREADY shared. Even then, if it was behind another click to "unlock" even at pay-what-you-want level, you'd STILL have people paying the minimum. How do I know? I have tested this extensively with my own products and 10s of thousands of customers. People don't pay what anything is worth. This is because we like to consume a lot of stuff but don't want to spend a month's salary paying for it. Value for value might be ok and can improve at scale, but I am still not convinced that it will actually pay bills consistently.

One exception perhaps, is if you have a subscription people can join. Then, you only need a handful of people paying meaningful amounts to make meaningful money. But, that means you have to consistently deliver good content which is a lot of work and even the most prolific content creators can't always keep up.
