It brought Nintendo IPs into the HD, and gave us unique experiences that you couldn't really do with other systems. Nintendo Land's asymmetric couch multiplayer was so fun with my family. And Mario Maker level creation was superior with the stylus.
Plus it revived Bayonetta, gave us Mario 3D World, my favorite 3D Mario, Yoshi's Wooly World, Pikmin 3 (which I think played better on Wii U), Mario Kart 8, which we're STILL playing, Splatoon brought us gyro aiming. That's just odd the top of my head too - the Wii U did a lot for gaming, really paving the way for the juggernaut that is the Switch
