Not surprised at all. Neuroscience is incredibly reductionistic, we have to admit it. Whereas there are excellent people like you who have broader views, that's the exception, imo.
In part I blame it on the biological part of training of students. The ones I teach that come from bio already have these views quite entrenched so early already...
