Hi #AskFedi! Many years ago, I learnt that the reason cats' ears are so soft is because they secrete a kind of conditioner. The reason they often rub their paws behind their ears when washing is to spread it around and maintain their fur.
PROBLEM: I now can't find any mention online of this legendary cat conditioner. Furthermore, I can't find any source that has anything to say about why cats are soft behind their ears.
Is there an actual answer to this? Have I been misinformed? Send help
