a malicious Chatmail server could store all data in the hope of selling it to some future NSA-like entity which would employ quantum computers to decrypt messages, possibly, and then employ some massive AI operation to make any sense of it (as if). But today's real life threat in 99.99 percent of cases is "somebody grabs or hacks my device" and "network is gone or flaky" .... a reality for many facing authoritarian repression or worse, today.
