Apparently, if you put fiber transcivers in to switches to connect a 1Gig to a 10Gig, and the owner of the 10Gig didn't realize they needed to set it to operate at 1Gig, the 1Gig switch gets really upset and starts doing things similar in concept to myself when I am overwhelmed.
