There aren't many people like Matt Hamilton (npub1gx2…4lmh) out there, willing to put in the work without claiming the prize of being Head Censor of their little sandbox. So the concept of federation was always doomed to fail; most people can't resist the allure of imposing their opinions on others.

If you want censorship-free social media, it's going to have to come via something more like Nostr. But that will never be popular, because it puts the burden of managing your feed on the individual user.
