In one business jet I flew (as a pilot), there were "rails" like a sled underneath the fuselage. They were made of Kevlar and the reason for them was, if the landing gear failed to come down, the jet could be landed on the Kevlar rails and the fuselage (and its contents) would be largely or even totally unharmed. I am not aware whether or not this has ever happened in real life, but what a great idea.
