Unit identity is good, actually. They should be less customizable and more built to fill a niche role, giving you reasons to use them based on the situation. I also like class trees more than "anyone can be anything" systems. 2-3 ways to build each character seems good to me. No turning my Sage into a General thanks. That's stupid. You're stupid and I hate you.
