I have now OCR’ed a 27 year archive of comics strips to find that one strip I remember.
And I failed: I did not find the strip where they call the eagles to destroy the lord of the rings plot by dropping the ring into mount doom while the air defenses of Mordor are still weak.
Anyway: I now know how to quickly OCR a large number of images and search them with fuzzy search. Here’s the howto:
