i do think the web is compelling, because there are so many developers out there and also designers who are familiar with CSS, html and javascript and also once deployed, works on any device without complicated installation.
Packaging a cross platform app otherwise is a major hassle.
I hope a simplified subset with all the useful and essential features can be carved out of the web and turned into a new platform
Imho pears.com is trying to do exactly that and one could probably polyfill pears in browsers to some degree 🙂
