Typhoid Mary…is this a myth? Apparently she was held against her will for over 25 years, until her death in fact, as she tested positive for typhus but never had any symptoms.

I was taught in medical school she was an asymptomatic carrier, but the fact that they imprisoned her for it makes me wonder if it’s true. I’m too far from the molecular biology at the moment to judge for myself if such an asymptomatic carrier state is biologically plausible or not, but jailing someone on account of positive tests is something I’ll never trust in post covid.
