Honestly, I'm so tired of people acting like social media is this big evil and everyone is a slave or addict to it. As if it's that nasty habit we're all trying to quit but we're just too weak and coming in for more.
I enjoy social media. Not it this *abusive toxic partner* kind of way some are trying to impose. No, I believe social media truly makes my days a bit better and it's mostly a delightful place.
But I see where it could be not a delightful place. And I do find myself in not so nice corners of social media from time to time. So I need to change the direction in those cases.
It's not that social media is the big bad wolf prying over the poor mortals. It's that some people are using it wrong.
I know what I want to see in each social media I have and I am mindful to keep it that way. It's easier here with no ads and algorithm but it works good enough elsewhere too.
I make it a point to engage only with content I want to see in the future and not to just click on something because it caught my eye even tho I don't give two shits for the topic
I make it a point to only follow people whos content I truly enjoy consuming and are in the topics I'm interested in seeing more of.
I make it a point to try and hide anything that pops up and I don't waht to see.
Basically, I'm teaching the algorithm to work for me. And it (mostly) does. And it makes social media a pretty delightful place to be in. Maybe if you've ever thought about quitting social media all together, you should instead take your time and unfollow anything you don't like, block anything too persistent, find new creators you enjoy and be mindful what content you're engaging with because you will get more of it in the future. It's not a one time proces, you should repeat it as you change of course. Give it a go and see if you still feel the same about it.
