and yet here you are talking to me on Mastodon, a decentralized platform I messaging from my own server on.

The issues I raise with social media on blockchain is where do we host the data, and if on blockchain, why should each node have an entire copy of the blockchain. Federation seems the best approach of social media. ActivityPub and similar IMHO seem best currently.

Cryptocurrency still has too many barriers if people were already complaining about Mastdodon
