Wait, what if the declining search result quality, Google's awfulness (and the fact that everyone else is racing them to the bottom), the fact that you now have to dig through multiple pages of crap on a YouTube search to find what you were looking for, are all just optimized for engagement?
Like the metric says that more time spent poking through the crap reads as engagement, and so redesigns which increase the BS spew score higher?
