Whelp. I have been calling the wing balancing organs on flies "hal terras" (like it's Spanish)

But apparently "halteres" is pronounced "halt tiers" and. Well, yes, that makes more sense. BUT "hal terras" sounds so much more exciting and fancy!

(The perils of learning about a subject from books! I've "known" this word for years... but never heard anyone say it until now.)
