Seeing the "why doesn't #Bluesky choose to federate with #Mastodon?" discourse in my TL and since whenever I write anything about this in anyone else's thread I get scolded from all sides I'll just write it in my thread:

Fedi (which Mastodon is part of) uses ActivityPub protocol. Bluesky uses AT Protocol, aka ATPRoto. Both of them federate with sites that use their protocol. Neither federate with sites using some other protocol.
