As far as an argument goes for replacing the sources, EDFE (and hopefully also RR soonish) are starting to build the new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK. Those power stations will need people, and a good chunk of those people will need a working knowledge of radiation and shielding. There's a hundred years of work there.
Kids in high school now will be helping to build new power stations. Their children will be helping to run them. Their children's children, too. Providing the inspiration that gets some of them onto that career path will set them up for life.
