And I believe in helping people where I can.
However, I also believe that, by and large, life *isn't* fair, and that by and large, you *can't* expect people to be compassionate and helpful, and you *can't* expect handouts, and therefore if you want something, you *do* have to go out there and grab it because you can't expect anyone to give it to you.
You need to hold *yourself* to a certain standard of compassion, and helpfulness, and a promise that you're never going to step on other people to get what you want out of life. You need to hold yourself to that standard because it's the right thing to do, but you absolutely cannot expect anyone else to do the same, because most won't (and if you find someone who does, you should cherish them and be grateful for them and never take them for granted, nor should you take advantage of them and wear them out to the point where they become frustrated and cynical stop being that kind of person).
