Loki Patera is the largest volcanic depression on Io, 202 km in diameter, with a giant lava lake. NASA's Juno mission has completed several flybys of Io and observed how volcanoes have changed over several years. Researchers have identified a resurfacing wave moving 2-3 km a day across the giant lava lake and persistent small islands that have remained stable for over 45 years. It's believed to have a deep magma reservoir beneath the crust, keeping the region molten.
