I think it also helps that now there are a few distros that are good for beginners or casual users. Low barrier to entry and high push to gtfo windows.
I didn't realize windows could get more annoying and then they updated the clock. It's the silliest thing to be frustrated by but for work I will watch seconds. Can't do that on OOTB windows now and I haven't bothered to figure out how to toggle it back yet.
