Rich city dwellers used it as their escape from the bustle of the city, so they could relax in the quiet countryside. The carriage track for the long journey to the outer suburbs is now Riverside Park. I have 1/3 of the original apartment. My next door neighbors have the servant's quarters. It's weird to think of life back then, when UWS Manhattan is now just a part of the city bustle, a short subway ride from Times Square.
