The ubiquity of the smart-phones — and especially children and teenagers having access to smart-phones, and with it social-media, during early puberty seems to be what defines Gen-Z as a generation (different from Millennials).

Early puberty being — 11 to 13 years old for girls, and 12 to 15 years old for boys.

This, plus over-protective parenting that don't allow their children independence, seems to have brought on a behavioral change in Gen-Z that hasn't been seen before.
