TBF, many (most?) words don't translate 1:1, especially if you consider connotations and other nuance (e.g. does it sound more pretentious in language A than language B?). It's mostly about deciding how much semantic overlap you require.

I remember a long discussion with a German speaker about *essen* and *fressen* — she was was concerned that we translated both as "eat" in English, as if humans consumed food the same way animals do.
