#NationalDayOfMourning #Pilgrims
My parents kept the thanks in #Thanksgiving and assured that we knew the marvelous myth of the Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving.
Once I unlearned the myth, it was hard to find any enthusiasm for the day.
It’s sad to remove those rose-colored glasses and view things more accurately. I have no doubt, though, that not owning up to our own dark past weakens our ability to confront genocide and ethnic cleansing elsewhere.
