BT/openreach, the "national" telecoms provider, actively lobbied against fibre broadband solutions for 20 years in favour of their solution, multiple iterations (therefore multiple government handouts) of ADSL. This was despite knowing that copper based services would not work in rural areas.
They tried to drive B4RN and other small solution providers out of business by through unfair government funded competition and misleading/inaccurate briefing.
