My wife really wants to take up sewing, so I want to buy her a sewing machine. She has a ton of ideas for making/altering clothing.

Can anyone on the fediverse please offer any tips and advice, or point me in the right direction?

What type of machine should a novice use? I know of the Singer brand, but are there any others I should look out for? Are there any good books or guides that you can recommend?
