I think that belief is self-reinforcing. I think a *lot* of people want to be better than that, many are, and some think they are (but aren't). You don't create a better world by insisting that everyone is already too shitty for that. People work hard every day to make a better life for themselves and their family. We need to remind them they benefit from a better community, state, and nation as well.
