I saw Cory Doctorow speak at an ALA conference way back when and one of the things he said really stuck with me. He was talking to a group of librarians who he knew would agree with him some, but not entirely. And he said that he wasn't really trying to convince them that his way (about privacy iirc) was correct, but just that his direction, generally, was the right direction. I think about that a lot when I'm trying to figure out why I do what I do (and how to do it).
