Liberals have a very reductionist take on fascism, basically the only ingredient in fascism is a repressive State, so any and all repressive States, and any and all repressive authorities, can be called a fascist ("my math teacher is a total fascist").
There are many debates and takes on fascism, some converge, others not so much, but what I take away from my readings is that Fascism is more a movement than an ideology, and that it's an answer to rebellion, its origin IS counterrevolution.
