IIf you are right about what eventually happens then in the short term there is a quite viable business opportunity helping people and companies incorporate AI in their business. The AI itself will not do this for them as this requires quite a bit of the human touch. Even in conventional software many of us have made our living for decades integrating the capabilities afforded into various businesses. AI is even more new and more complex to understand and right scale. There will be need for human experts in this for some time.

There is also a very strong need for AI entrepreneurs - those that see value that can be offered and is desired using AI and can deliver it consuming less value than is produced. Note here that most customers are human. I don't believe that AI is anytime soon going to have such a fine theory of human mind and the multiple skills that go into being a successful entrepreneur.

But are you right? It is not an easy slam dunk from here to AGI - at least not what has long been thought to be meant by that. While today's AI can emulate what seems to be general abstract thinking, concept formation, general learning and so on any sort of deep dive into how these AIs work show that it is not so. This is part of why hallucination and spewing of what might follow probabilistic but is not so and makes no sense at a conceptual level is common.

As long as this is so there is very much room for and need of human actual general intelligence.
