I don’t buy into the numerology stuff. It’s more a symptom of people’s ability to read patterns into anything. The case for a 1988 rapture had very similar reasoning.

Moreover, the interpretation of Revelation as a sequence of events leading to a literal thousand year reign, commonly called “premillennialism” today, used to be labeled “Chiliasm” and it’s condemned by the early Christians as a heresy. The only orthodox interpretation of the 1000 years is as the age of the Church, which some would say we’re in now, and others would say begins once the World is completely converted (I’m in the latter camp.)

I would suggest looking into partial preterism and the modern dating theories for the Book of Revelation. They suggest that the book was likely written in the 60’s AD and is primarily a prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. Anything from Kenneth Gentry is good on this subject. He uses both internal Biblical evidence and the testimony of early Christians to build the case.
