Thanks to the builders, today was the first time in a fortnight that I’ve been able to get in the garden in a way that meant Dog could stay on the sofa keeping an eye on me / popping out occasionally to check up on me, and it’s been quite sunny, so I’ve been out there most of the afternoon.
Cut back the asparagus (and found an unexpected plantlet: I know they’re called walking onions, but that was more of a giant leap); took out the beans; gave one of the perennial kales a very hard prune (I don’t think it will come back, but it was sprawling terribly as it was one I put in before I realised you need to stake them; I’ll see what it does next spring); planted out a crab apple and a cherry that have been sitting on the patio for the last fortnight, and an American wintergreen that arrived while I was filling up the garden bin (“I’ve got another gardening job for you in the back!” said the courier); picked off masses of manky brassica leaves.
