I have been running my node on an HDD since I first set it up and I finally had to switch to an SSD because the other hard drive crashed. I managed to clone it but couldn't get past the corrupted clocks and decided to just download the entire chain again. Right right now I'm downloading blocks from February 2017. This is back when everyone was first starting to freak out about transaction fees. The block I just downloaded average transaction fee of 113 s/vb. (Were we already quoting virtual bytes back then? I thought it was later, only after the fork) anyway I just checked the last clock that processed and it seems the average fee was 8 s/vb. Rumors of bitcoins free spiraling to my eyes seem to have been greatly exaggerated.
