These last days, I had the pleasure of attending the Benevol2024 workshop in Namur (https://benevol2024.github.io/), a fantastic event at the crossroads of software engineering and academia. Taking two days off from work to immerse myself in this vibrant community was absolutely worth it!

The workshop provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with researchers from different universities, exchange insights, and experience the incredible atmosphere. It was exciting to delve into topics that are increasingly gaining attention in the corporate world.

One of the highlights was attending the presentation by Tom Mens and Alexandre Decan on their new paper: "An Overview and Catalogue of Dependency Challenges in Open Source Software Package Registries" (https://arxiv.org/abs/2409.18884). Dependency management in software development is a subject I’ve been passionate about for years, and it is inspiring to see how much attention this field is receiving.

Reproducible builds and SBOMs are a cornerstone for effective Software Composition Analysis (SCA) and fostering trust in the software evolution ecosystem (more about this in the aforementioned paper, go read it).

To top it all off, we received with a tiny, adorable alligator as a souvenir!

A big thank you to everyone I met for the engaging conversations and inspiring exchanges. Events like these remind me why I love being part of the software engineering and research community 😉
