I still dislike the name Mastodon, and doubt that I will I ever understand why it’s named that. By what logic is a microblogging platform postured as step forward named for an extinct species of mammal? It’s sort of like calling a new electric vehicle a “Model A.” Even ironically, it makes no sense. And sayin “it’s just a name” doesn’t fly, because new users often express confusion about it. It hardly instills trust in a brand to suggest it’s named for a failed species.
