These things are definitely not limited to social media. You don't feel not optimistic about the Fediverse, you feel not optimistic about the human race. Truthfully, neither am I.
This is not to say that you are wrong for leaving, it's just to say when you go, when you go back to the "real world", you might still not like what you see.
