But the thing is, I don't want a standard, I want a stable language.

If I were a compiler author, I'd care a whole lot about a standard, because it tells me what I can and can't do. But I'm not, I'm a user. I'm a boring user that uses the default compiler recommended by the language creators.

I don't care if they've got 172 proprietary test cases with a certificate of compliance from a UN delegation in Geneva, the only thing that matters is whether I can come back to the same code and it'll still work.

If Python wanted to pretend to have a standard, all they'd have to do is document all the really boring stuff like tabbing, function declaration syntax, etc and let everything else be the famous Undefined Behavior. They could even make it so 2.x and 3.x are both compliant :trollface:

Rust basically just says "we're not gonna tell you what Rust is, but here's a compiler, and if you trust us, we're not gonna break your code tomorrow". So far they've been quite good about earning that trust.
