Self defense is a basic, natural right. There shouldn't be "public property" anyway. If this were privately owned transit that had a no firearms rule, the question would be solved, and the transit operator would be liable for the security of the passengers. On "public transit" can you expect the government to protect you, while they try to forbid from having the means to defend yourself?
