On a negative note, I think we're failing as scientific fields by not writing better. I think that the problem, at least in part, comes from our narrow training (typically) in subdimensions of one field. The insularity really contributes to this I believe.
It's almost as if during PhDs and after that people are being trained to "generate results" but not think more broadly about them...
(Like you, I don't want to single out this example.)
